ITC helps Ukrainian entrepreneurs get HACCP certificates

The International Trade Center consultants will help entrepreneurs from the southern Ukraine to receive Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards. A number of measures will be carried out for Ukrainian companies as a part of ITC project called “Linking Ukrainian SMEs in the Fruits and Vegetables Sector to Global and Domestic Markets and Value Chains”, which is funded by the Government of Sweden and ITC.

According to ITC’s national consultant Vladislav Faleyev, this certification of production is required for Ukrainian enterprises from January 1, 2018. “This means that it is not necessary to have a certificate yet, but must comply with these standards. In 2018, a special inspection will be established in Ukraine to control compliance of enterprises with HACCP standards. Therefore, my colleagues from ITC decided to help our manufacturers implement these standards. Some of our partners already have such certificates, some are not. As for example we’ll take “Vladam”, a company that manufactures canned vegetables. We’ll go through the process of obtaining a HACCP certificate. We also initiated visits by Ukrainian HACCP specialists from the Mykolayiv Center for Standardization and Metrology, which carry out initial audits at other enterprises and advise them on the next certification steps,” says Vladislav Faleev.

HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) is a risk analysis and critical point control system that works ahead, allowing you to identify hazards directly in the production process. By setting a critical threshold for certain indicators, HACCP can effectively prevent risks and get high quality and safe products that meet all international requirements.

HACCP system operates with chemical, biological and physical substances (bacteria, viruses, fungi, chemical compounds, foreign objects). They can at any moment of production get into the product or be in it from the very beginning. In order to exclude their appearance at all stages, the HACCP system establishes peculiar beacons in the most vulnerable parts of the technological process.

The HACCP system in the food industry can improve the efficiency of processes, reduce the number of defective products, and stabilize production according to a well-established scheme. As a result, not only the quality of food will grow, but also the confidence of consumers to the manufacturer.
