On May 14 and 15, the ITС Project Team in Ukraine I collaboration with the Zaporizhzhia Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the training on the certification according to the international standard Global G.A.P.

Participants from Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Kherson regions attended the training. Producers and processors of fruits and vegetables, nuts, greenery, representatives of chambers of commerce and industry and professional associations were among participants.

The training was conducted by Nina Dmytrash – Global GAP certification consultant, who has extensive experience in consulting Ukrainian enterprises.

Nina Dmytrash told about the Global G.A.P standard in several information blocks. Firstly about the basic principles of the standard, the bodies of accreditation, certification, laboratory and testing, as well as the history of the creation of the standard.

The next block included information about the main components of the GlobalG.A.P standard: general rules; control points and compliance criteria; possible certification options; GRASP social module of the standard.

According to Nina Dmytrash, certification of GlobalG.A.P. helps to implement a convenient mechanism of activity as well as to trace production technologies, from planting material, fertilizers and pesticides to after-harvesting and storage.

Certificate GLOBALG.A.P. confirms that the product meets the appropriate level of safety and quality, manufactured in compliance with environmental standards, with care for the health and safety of workers, the state of the environment.

During the final part Nina Dmytrash told about the steps on the implementation of certification requirements. At the end of the training, the participants passed a small test for mastering the knowledge gained.

During the training entrepreneurs were interested in the motivation to obtain the certificate GlobalG.A.P., the experience of other enterprises, the feature of the certification procedure and its confirmation, the benefits of the certificate during export activities.

Nina Dmitrush notes that the certificate GlobalG.A.P. is not required to export products, but it is a prerequisite for gaining access to maine international markets.

The project “Linking Ukrainian SMEs in the Fruits and Vegetables Sector to Global and Domestic Markets and Value Chains” aims to help Ukrainian enterprises from southern regions to integrate into domestic and global value chains and access new markets, with a focus on the EU. The Project is funded by the Government of Sweden and the International Trade Centre.
