During the full-scale war, fruit production in Ukraine decreased by approximately 10% (Source: Ukrainian Agricultural Export Association). This has not become critical for ensuring the domestic market; however, military actions, the occupation of southern and eastern regions, the destruction of infrastructure, and logistical restrictions have significantly affected the productivity of the sector and the export of horticultural products.

Fruits

Together with the project, Ukrainian growers and exporters became regular participants in the largest sector trade fairs, such as Fruit Logistica, Gulfood, Fruit Attraction, SIAL, and Anuga.
Fruit orchards and processors of fruits from the Kherson, Mykolayiv, and Odesa regions were among the first beneficiaries of the project in 2016. At that time, with financial support from Sweden, the International Trade Centre (ITC) began its intervention in Ukraine by developing a Roadmap for the development of the value chain for the fruit and vegetable sector. In 2019, the project’s geography expanded to include the Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhya regions, and in 2021, it extended to all of Ukraine.
In addition to trade fair participation, numerous training sessions on market analysis, communication in foreign markets, post-harvest handling, export marketing, and the requirements of foreign buyers – conducted by international consultants and local experts – several farms were provided support in preparation for GlobalG.A.P. certification.
