On March 15th, at the premises of the NVO “Filbert” in Odesa region

On March 15th, at the premises of the NVO “Filbert” in Odesa region, the first practical seminar on the cultivation and processing of hazelnuts took place. It was organized by the ITC project “Promoting the entry of SMEs from the fruit and vegetable sector into foreign markets and integrating them into value chains” with the financial support of the Swedish government and in cooperation with the NGO “Ukrainian Nut Association.”

Participants were welcomed by the National Project Manager Olena Kolomoitseva and the President of the Ukrainian Nut Association, Gennadiy Yudin.

Olena Kolomoitseva emphasized the importance of education and experience sharing, sustainable development, and the need for collective efforts of all sector participants to improve the international image of Ukrainian nuts, particularly those produced with quality and safety requirements in mind.

The seminar gathered hazelnut producers who already have industrial plantations from Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv regions, and other parts of Ukraine.

Throughout the day, the director of NVO “Filbert” Maksym Sheiko, chief agronomist Natalia Dey, and the enterprise’s technologist Oleksandr Vysochina discussed the peculiarities of maintaining an industrial orchard, plant protection and nutrition, the nuances of harvesting and storing the crop, its post-harvest processing, and processing.

Today, Filbert is a leader in the hazelnut industry in Ukraine. The area of Filbert orchards reaches 820 hectares. The company provides a full cycle from growing hazelnuts to promoting its own manufactured products in national retail chains under its own brand, Flarino.

The discussion of practical issues regarding the technology of growing and feeding hazelnuts continued in the processing workshops of the modern Filbert plant.

The head of the enterprise, Maksym Sheiko, shared his own experience regarding the peculiarities of working with different varieties of hazelnuts, discussed the advantages and disadvantages of working with them at various stages of post-harvest processing and processing.

It was an interesting and eventful day! We look forward to the next seminars and invite Ukrainian hazelnut producers who would like to learn all this firsthand to register at the link.
